When sending payments to U.S. bank accounts, it is essential to provide accurate and properly formatted beneficiary address information. Compliance with U.S. regulations and the requirements of the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) is mandatory. Invalid or incomplete address information can lead to payment rejection.

Address requirements for U.S. beneficiaries

  • High-quality data: The beneficiary address must be valid and precise. A valid U.S. address is one to which a postal letter can be successfully delivered.

  • U.S. formatting standards: Follow the United States Postal Service (USPS) guidelines for all address components, including street address, city, state, and ZIP code.

  • Use of Latin characters: All elements of the address must be written in Latin letters, without using any other alphabet.

Common types of address errors

  1. Incorrect data
    Examples include:

    • Incorrect street address or house number

    • Multiple house numbers in the street field

    • Street address containing city, state, or country information

    • Providing a business address for an individual

    • Mismatch between city name and ZIP code

    • Using a bank branch address instead of the beneficiary’s personal address

  2. Missing data
    Examples include:

    • Missing house number

    • Incomplete street address

    • Missing city, state, or ZIP code

  3. Typos or typing mistakes

    • Spelling errors or minor data inaccuracies

How to ensure compliance

  • Verify each element of the address against the USPS official standards.

  • Double-check that the street address, city, state, and ZIP code are correct and correspond to each other.

  • Avoid abbreviations or unusual formatting that may cause the address to be unrecognized.
